This past Saturday on August 29th, Nghia and HT's began our annual One Day Leadership Retreat hosted by Deacon Long. With the help of Deacon Long, we were lucky enough to learn from so many inspirational speakers and at the same time have wonderful snack breaks thanks to Deaconess Loan!
Around 9 a.m. Deacon Long began his first activity where every one of us had to write characteristics we liked about one another and placed them into envelopes with our candid pictures. Afterwards Deacon Long had us do mini skits according to bible verses to exemplify God's creations within seven days. Many groups were hilariously creative in creating their own interpretations of God's creation. After a interesting lecture about God and we settled down and learned a golden message from Deacon Long. We recognized that God always and will forever loving and that is never changing. With God, there is no time, but everlasting love eternal happiness.
With the day off to a great start, we were even more eager to learn from Linda! Linda taught us valuable lessons about working with one another more importantly, her motto PLAG.
Above all we learned that with creating a great community comes the effort and contribution of everyone no matter how small creates a driving force to serve God!
To finish off our round of speakers, we were delighted to meet So who helped all of us recognize to open our eyes for God's calling for vocation. We played multiple games from "rock, paper, scissors" the fancy style where we were either a Christian, adult, child, or egg. From then on, So advised us that within each of those stages are vocations such as serving one's vocation as a child or even a husband for example. Other games we played included our members playing as a rescuer, robber, or a cop. With this game we learned the importance of hearing God's calling. Lastly, we learned most of all to have the right intention for God's calling for our own vocations no matter what is happening, certain coming of events might be opportunities sent from God.
To end our day, we played some intense but hilarious games to enjoy each others company before we headed off to mass. We hope you all feel spiritually revitalized for the upcoming school year and may you all take great confidence to move forward as future leaders of the church. We all play an important role in the "body" of our youth group and with each of us as the "organs," we build an amazing foundation to do great things for God. We are the future of the church! May Mary our mother guide us to an upcoming school year filled with love and success!
