Torrance Gets Crafty

Today all ngành enjoyed a relaxing day off from học hỏi to sit back with arts and crafts! This day was also special because our older TNF members celebrated Palm Sunday of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the Jesus' washing of the feet with his fellow disciples.

On this exciting day, all ngành had the luxury of choosing between either origami, friendship bracelets, or coloring pages workshops. While everyone was creating their own masterpieces, we also played a special TNF slideshow to look back on all our past memories we have shared together over the years. This was a wonderful experience to give all of our TNF members a day to sit back and get cracking with crafts and spend a good time in each other's company.

At the end of the day, Lop Thank Kinh 2 celebrated Jesus' washing of the feet. Chi Brenda guided us as we washed each others feet to act as one of Jesus' disciples to humble ourselves and be the person to choose to wash another person's feet and as well accept the washing of our own feet. God calls out to us everyday to accept to become one of his servants to serve those everyone around us and to sacrifice and spread love to everyone around us as Jesus did when he died on the cross for us. We hope you all found this experience eye opening and to encourage you to continue to humble ourselves to serve those around us as Jesus did.

Accepting the Call to Serve

Our chapter of Thiếu Nhi Fatima located in Torrance, California was given the name "Đức Mẹ Truyền Tin" 25 years ago.  Today we celebrate the feast day of "Đức Mẹ Truyền Tin" which means "The Annunciation", when Angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to bring her the good news that she would be the Mother of God.  The importance of this day isn't just how Mary was chosen to be bear the only Son of God but that she freely chose to accept her Divine Maternity.  As we know, God loves us so much He has given us free will to choose right even if we fail to do so.  The reason why we glorify is because Mary is our perfect example of how to be children of God.  By saying yes, she put all her trust in God to serve Him despite the hardships she knew she would have to overcome.  We pray that in our lives we can be like Mary and have the courage to accept God's calling. Ave Maria, please continue to guide us to be humble servants of God just like you.

On Saturday March 21, TNF Torrance celebrated this special milestone with a fun filled day of trò chơi lớn games and a night of delicious phở, entertainment, and a beautiful symbolic cake. In preparation for the big day, many of our TNF members contributed in wrapping utensils, making decorations, singing for choir practice, and planning games.  We would like to thank everyone who has supported us through praying, teaching, and encouraging us to continue our calling as children of Fatima.  Please keep us in your prayers so that we can continue to achieve many more milestones in the future.

The blue color of the cake represents the blue scarves of the members of our organization.  Around the cake, there are brown and white ribbons which are inspired by the color of the scarves our youth leaders and clergy. This symbolizes how they tie together our youth group by shaping the spiritual lives of our younger members.  On the cake, there are exactly ten white roses which is a decade of the "Hail Mary" prayers to express our offerings to Mary.

"Ave Maria, gratia plena, dominus tecum
Amen"

Special Day of Học Hỏi & Đoàn Games (3/14/15)

On March 14th we had a special day filled with two hours of học hỏi and đoàn games! Today we also had no class in which all ngành had the opportunity to study hard and as well play hard.

For two hours all three ngành reviewed over the material they have been learning since the beginning of the school year in preparation for tro chơi lớn upcoming this Saturday. In one of the stations for tro chơi lớn, we will be having a jeopardy game in which all ngành will be tested for their knowledge from the past several months. After reviewing, we all had a exciting time of free play and relaxation before preparing for lunch. After eating delicious ham sandwiches, all ngành
had the option to choose between playing either dodge ball, kickball, or free play.

This day was very well spent in which everyone had the opportunity to play freely after studying rigorously. We would like to give a huge thumbs up to all of our members who continue to keep to learning and putting in the effort to learn about our Lady of Fatima and the importance behind of Thiếu Nhi Fatima. Keep up the good work everyone!

LA Youth Day #TalkJesusWithMe - (3/12/15)

Every year Deacon Long and Deaconess Loan encourage our older TNF members to enjoy and take a break out of our week to take time to engage in a spiritual filled day among thousands of teens. Youth Day is special event that is held on the Thursday of Religious Education Congress weekend. This is the day for the youth of all sorts of backgrounds from throughout the archdiocese to participate in a Rally, Liturgy, and Workshops focused just for the youth. This year's theme was "Talk Jesus With Me"and reminds us all to always remember God always has open ears and an open heart to listen. It is up to us to speak up, communicate with God, and talk Jesus with everyone around us in order to spread the word of our faith with great pride and love.

This year we had excited 29 attendees arrive early in the morning ready to share the love for Jesus. Before we split up into workshops we enjoyed various skits about opening your heart to Jesus and understanding when struggling through hardships, Jesus is ready to listen. We continued to hear encouraging pep talk from special teen speakers in order to open our hearts to God for this special day. We also sang along to spiritual music performed by Ike Ndolo and his talented band. We then began our first session in which a few of us attended "Dealing with Stress" session led by our special speaker  Judy and her dog Daisy. Judy spoke about her struggles of having post traumatic stress disorder, and urges us that when in dire times, never be afraid to ask for help. The "The Truth Sex, Love, and Relationships" session was led by Mary Bielski. Most of our members attended this session and learned how sex is good in order for God to encourage us to procreate, the importance of treating yourself with respect, and the duties to the fulfillment to marriage.

Youth Day was a great opportunity for our TNF members to join among thousands of teens sharing their faith in God and appreciating his never ending love. From spending time in the arena watching live music, to engaging in mass, or gaining wisdom from lectures with hundreds of people we all gained wisdom from the speakers throughout that day to continue talking to Jesus and as well talk Jesus to everyone around us. We hope you all found this day very inspirational and encouraging to maintaining a good relationship with God and as well proclaiming our faith with great pride.

Thứ Bẩy Đầu Tháng (3/7/15)

On March 7 Torrance had the honors of hosting Thứ Bẩy Đầu Tháng (TBDT). Every first Saturday of the month one doàn hosts TBDT and organizes activities in order for one another to bond and grow spiritually with one another. We also bring our "Passports to God" in order to collect stickers to possibly win a mini iPad! For every three stars, we receive raffle tickets in order to win this amazing prize.

We first started our day early in the morning at 8:30 a.m. to prepare the annex for mass, and decorations. Ngành Thiếu helped decorate our statue Mary with beautifully made paper flower assortments. By 10 a.m. we began mass with Cha Long and followed up with praying the Rosary. While praying the rosary a few Nghĩa members helped read each of the sorrowful mysteries in spirit of Easter. We prayed the sorrowful mysteries in order to follow along the pain and sufferings Mary went through seeing her only son die on the cross. After the Rosary, we began to play icebreakers and games such as "barnyard animals" and "bird and perch." We ended TBDT with delicious tacos and a a mini "karaoke session" singing along to music.

Although the weather was extremely hot we enjoyed each others company nonetheless! Great thanks
to everyone who came out on this special day to dedicate a small part of our day to Mary and to as well
create great memories with one another. Till next month!
