Looking good in those jerseys! TNF Torrance participated in a basketball tournament with all the youth organizations of the LA region. Special thanks to Fr. Bao and Fr. Long for hosting this event to bring awareness to vocations.

Đoàn Thiếu Nhi Fatima Đức Mẹ Truyền Tin Torrance Turns 25!

On March 21,2015 Thiếu Nhi Fatima Đức Mẹ Truyền Tin celebrated our 25th anniversary. We are so glad to have so much support to reach this special milestone. We've grown a lot and with the grace of Mary, we hope she can continue protecting us and guiding us closer to God.

Trại Hè Liên Đoàn Fatima XXVII

50 members of TNF Torrance went out to represent at a camping trip filled with other children who share their mission. We overcame many challenges and brought home four trophies. Congratulations to all of us for achieving many things this past school year and showing it in those three days.

RECAP: Preparing for Tết Văn Nghệ! (1/24/15)

This previous Saturday, dedicated TNF members arrived at church a little earlier than
usual to practice for Tết Văn Nghệ.

The term Tết Nguyên Đán (abbreviated Tết) means Lunar New Year. The new year is an important time for Vietnamese people all over the world to start the new year right by cleaning their homes, ridding bad feelings, and celebrate the coming of spring. A very important factor is family: a common tradition is to visit one another's homes and bring gifts as a symbol of wishing good fortune to one another. Another tradition is lì xì (or mừng tuổi), which is lucky money (you've probably seen the bright red envelopes!). Children first give their elders a traditional Tết greeting and receive lì xì. Tết is one of the biggest celebrations in Vietnamese culture and it is no different
here for TNF Torrance. Every year in January, we begin preparations for Tết Văn Nghệ, which
is a variety show sponsored by our Vietnamese Catholic community full of dancing, singing, and
other acts. TNF usually puts on about 3 performances!

At 10:00 am, Huynh Trưởng  and Nghĩa began their first practice for the
"Colors of the Rainbow" Fashion Show. Members are paired up and assigned to
a color of the rainbow for a total of 13 couples. On the day of the show, they will be able to
flaunt their creative poses and stylish apparel: ladies will be wearing the traditional
Vietnamese Áo dài and gentlemen will get "suited up" to escort their partners
as they strut down the runway onstage.

By the time it was 11:30 am, the excited Ấu dancers, who will also be performing,
came rushing through the gates! This group consists of 16 girls and boys, all looking forward to
this wonderful celebration. For this year's theme, Ch Diana decided to take a new direction:
instead of traditional Vietnamese costumes, the performers will be sporting a more edgier army
look as they dance to "Anh Là Lính Đa Tình" by Trish Thùy Trang.

Lastly, Múa Lân dancers arrived to practice by 12 pm, bringing out all the festively colored lion
heads of the past years, as well as new ones that were generously donated to TNF. This year,
the Múa Lân team will be having familiar faces who have previously participated, however, it is also
exciting to announce that more of ngành Thiếu have joined this year, including teams of girls
who will be performing with their own lion heads!

While every one has been working hard practicing in the previous weeks, and will continue
to practice hard in the upcoming weeks, we are all excited to see what TNF has in store for
Tết Văn Nghệ this year! We hope that you are anticipating the day of the performance as
much as we are!

Tết Văn Nghệ will be on February 28 after mass. To see more of how we are preparing for
show day, please check out this video created by Ch Diana!

Along with great age variety, we have girls performing alongside our boys this year.We hope you all enjoyed your weekend and look forward to seeing you next Saturday.

RECAP: Viet Youth Basketball Tournament for Vocations (1/3/15)

On January 3rd, TNF Torrance along with other Đoàn from Thiếu Nhi Fatima and Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể were invited to challenge one another and show off their skills in a friendly and fun basketball tournament. The event took place at St. Finbar Catholic Church in Burbank. It was hosted by Cha Nguyễn Tuấn Long (Tuyên Úy Thiếu Nhi Fatima) and Cha Nguyễn Huy Bảo (Tuyên Úy Ơn Gọi, CĐCGVN TGP Los Angeles) to promote vocations in our youth. A total of 12 Đoàn attended, bringing nearly 300 people to enjoy this event.

Players for TNF Torrance had been practicing for 3 weeks prior to game day. They even saved some time to practice during their holiday break to show their dedication and determination to win! In support, a few HT's gathered to make special jerseys for our boys. TNF Torrance players were uniformed in their royal blue t-shirt jerseys on the courts, each one representing their favorite number. The pep squad was also uniformed on the side lines in our blue polos, cheering proudly for our players.

In total, TNF Torrance participated in 4 games, and we had some players compete in a mini shoot-out competition! (Shout out to Ch Brenda who won $20 by making a 3-point shot and used it to buy us tacos!)  Although the winning trophy did not come home to with us, each member still showed great sportsmanship and stuck through it until the end, closing the day with mass at St. Finbar.

Not only was it a day full of fun in basketball but Cha Bảo had also prepared a trivia session with all Đoàn. Lucky winners got to receive prizes such as money, pens, chocolate, etc. The purpose of the trivia was to acknowledge that it is important for us as a Catholic youth group to understand and learn more about our religion, strengthen our faith, and follow the calling of God if that light were to ever shine at us.

Cha Bảo also announced that he will be hosting a monthly dialogue catechism group this year at Maria Regina Catholic Church in Gardena. It will be on every fourth Wednesday of the month for those who are interested in learning more about our faith. For more information, you can contact him through email (bao_nguyen@la-archdiocese.org) or phone (909-500-3789).

Thank you to all those that came to support this event, especially the hosts and all your hard work. We hope to have another next year!

Happy New Year from TNF Torrance! RECAP: Santa's Workshop (12/20), Christmas Party (12/21), & Christmas Play (12/24)

TNF Torrance would like to wish everyone an amazing beginning to this new year!

The start of a new year is often a time to reflect on all of the wonderful things in our lives as well as make resolutions toward a brighter future. It is also a great time to thank Mother Mary and God for all that we have and for what is to come. We pray that the blessings of Mary continue to guide and protect all of us. May we use this new year to recognize the beauty of the life God has given us and appreciate the powers of faith and prayer.

We hope every has a fun and safe winter break and we'll see you on January 10!

*Ca Đoàn TNF will also be singing for mass. Please see your schedule for more details or contact Chị Brenda.

RECAP: Santa's Workshop 12/20

During sinh hoạt, we celebrated Christmas together in our Santa's Workshop. Similar to our Halloween event, we set out booths with fun activities such as Merry Fishmas (fishing with candy canes), Caroloke (Christmas carol karaoke), Decorating Ornaments (arts & crafts, a big hit!), and a Photo Booth (with some awesome cutouts). Members could go to any booth and play games for prizes or enjoy activities sponsored by HT's and ngành Nghĩa.

Although the weather was dreary, our spirit was warm and joyful! We had fun going to each booth and seeing the effort put into the activities. The success was shown in how excited kids were to try the events (and how long the lines were!). We think these carnival events are definitely something we'll continue to hold and hopefully we'll have new surprises each time!

RECAP: Thieu & Nghia Christmas Party 12/21

The HT's hosted a special Christmas party to celebrate Jesus' birth with our Thieu and Nghia.  Many arrived in festive Christmas sweaters and brought delicious varieties of food. The atmosphere of the party was filled with love and laughter. After a good time of chatting and tons of eating, we created a village of gingerbread houses shaped by everyone's wonderful imaginations!

We hope that you all enjoyed your holiday with your loved ones and we can't wait see what's in store for the upcoming year for TNF with the help of God's guidance.

RECAP: TNF Christmas Play 12/24

TNF Torrance has been working with Thay Pho Te Nguyen Long for many years to put on the play for Christmas Eve Mass & this year's production was extra special! Did you notice why? Our cast wore modern clothes instead of the shepherd costumes of past years!

The concept behind this was to bring the wonders and joy of the birth of Jesus to our lives today. He was born over two thousand years ago but we still recognize the glory of His birth and it strengthens our faith to be able to connect with Jesus and Mary through modern times. What's better than this to show Jesus our love? We come to celebrate Him in our best clothes with our loved ones.
